About the speaker:

Dr. Andrea Monti Hughes is Head of the Radiation Pathology Division (Radiobiology Dept.) at the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) and Researcher at the National Scientific and Research Council (CONICET) in Argentina. Since 2007, she has been studying BNCT radiobiology in vivo in Dr. Amanda E. Schwint´s lab. Her research lines are mainly devoted to the study of new boron compounds and BNCT strategies for head and neck cancer, evaluating tumor response, radiotoxicity (in terms of mucositis and xerostomia) and radioprotectors, oral microbiota modulation, employing techniques like infrared thermography and preclinical imaging, apart from collaborating in other research lines of the group. She collaborates with several national and international groups. She has coordinated BNCT clinical veterinary studies for dog patients together with Dr. Amanda E. Schwint. She has published 43 papers, won 3 Fairchild Awards and the Kent Riley Award in 2017. She is involved in educational activities and is part of the Communication Task Force of the International Society of Neutron Capture Therapy. She is an active member of the Board of Councillors of the ISNCT and other societies related to BNCT.
