Associate Professor at the Department of Physics of the University of Pavia, he is in charge of three courses: "Physics of Ionising Radiation", "Accelerators and Nuclear Reactors" and "Diagnostic Techniques" for the MSc Physics and supervisor of BSc, MSc and PhD students. President of the Technical Scientific Committee of the Laboratory of Applied Nuclear Energy of the University of Pavia, member of the Council of the International Society for Neutron Capture Therapy. The scientific activity consists of research in fundamental and applied nuclear physics in the following fields Neutronics, development of new techniques for tumour radiotherapy, nuclear reactors, health physics, photoreactions at intermediate energies in light nuclei. The research in applied nuclear physics is carried out at the 250 kW nuclear reactor of the LENA laboratory and at other international centres. He played a leading role in the Taormina project, which applied BNCT to the treatment of diffuse liver metastases with liver auto-transplantation. Much effort is devoted to the installation of an accelerator based BNCT facility at the National Hadron Therapy Centre of Pavia; and to an experimental study dedicated to a Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography system based on Zinc Cadmium Telluride for in vivo boron dose imaging in BNCT.
