It is with sadness that we announce that Bohdan Mariański, PhD, a long-serving NCBJ employee, passed away on 8 February.
The funeral mass will be held on 15 February 2020 at 11:30 am (Saturday) in the Chapel at the Cathedral Cemetery in Łowicz.
He was born in 1947 in Łowicz. After graduating from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw in 1970, he took up a job at the Military University of Technology. In parallel, he cooperated with the Nuclear Reactions Department of the IBJ, which he became an employee of in 1981. In May 1986, he defended his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw, entitled "The study of the mechanism of nuclear reactions ((nuclear))". In May 1986, he defended his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, entitled "Study of the mechanism of nuclear reactions (n, p) induced by neutrons with energy of about 18 MeV". The thesis was supervised by Prof. Marian Jaskóła, PhD.
From 2009 to 2014, Dr. Marinski was head of the Department of Nuclear Physics at the then Institute of Nuclear Problems and later at the NCBJ. He retired in 2018, but continued to work as a volunteer.
Initially, Dr Marinski was involved in low-energy nuclear physics, and later his interests evolved towards particle physics. In recent years, he participated in the experimental programmes WASA in Jülich, HERMES in Hamburg and COMPASS at CERN. He was co-author of many important, sometimes revealing publications.
