NCBJ joins the European astroparticle physics initiative EuCAPT
25-11-2025
A group of researchers from the National Centre for Nuclear Research, in cooperation with scientists from institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, has joined the European scientific initiative EuCAPT. The NCBJ is among the first Polish centres to join this international collaboration.
The EuCAPT initiative, established in 2019, currently brings together nearly 1,700 scientists from over 100 European centres. Its aim is to develop a consensus within the scientific community on key challenges and research directions in the field of theoretical particle astrophysics and cosmology. EuCAPT also supports international cooperation, knowledge exchange and the dissemination of the most recent research results. Its priority areas of activity include the search for and modelling of dark matter, neutrino physics, gravitational waves, cosmic rays, high-energy astrophysics and research into the early Universe.
Participation in EuCAPT opens up new opportunities for our scientific community, especially for students and doctoral candidates. They gain access to open seminars, summer schools, a mentoring network and international research projects. Membership will also facilitate the submission of joint grant applications and the implementation of good practices in open science.
NCBJ joined EuCAPT as part of a consortium co-created by researchers from institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences: the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Centre, the Centre for Theoretical Physics, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, and the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research. Notably, researchers from NCBJ constitute the largest group in this consortium. - The fields of research related to EuCAPT's activities are strongly represented in Poland and at NCBJ. We want the voice of researchers from our country to be heard in this forum, which has the ambition to influence the shaping of science policy in Europe in the coming years -comments dr hab. Sebastian Trojanowski from the NCBJ's Theoretical Physics Division, representing the consortium on the EuCAPT council.
We wish you successful cooperation and the building of an increasingly strong position for Polish science on the international stage!
