Another workshop "XFEL applications in material sciences" has ended
10-12-2024
The European X-ray Free Electron Laser (EuXFEL) is one of the world's largest scientific endeavours. Its state-of-the-art research capabilities attract the best scientists from all over the world, making ambitious scientific challenges possible. EuXFEL experiments contribute significantly to our knowledge in a variety of fields, including medicine, pharmacology, chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology, energy and electronics, fostering the development of new technologies that affect our daily lives.
The workshop ‘XFEL applications in material sciences’ is organised periodically within the framework of the project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education supporting the development of the Polish XFEL research community in order to take full advantage of the new research opportunities offered by EuXFEL. The event took place at the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw on 5-6 December 2024.
During the workshop, world-class experts presented examples of XFEL research in:
- testing materials at high pressures and temperatures,
- nanotechnology and
- magnetism.
The workshop was also an opportunity for Polish scientists to present their current and/or planned research using XFEL.
In addition to the insightful scientific presentations, participants were introduced to the opportunities available under the ministerial programme, which provides funding for:
- participation in XFEL-related conferences, workshops and schools,
- internships in EuXFEL experimental stations
- conducting pilot and follow-up experiments.
In addition, the event included a presentation of the Network of Centres of Excellence for XFEL research in Poland (CD XFEL), within which the programme is being implemented.
We are convinced that the workshop was an important step for the participants in preparing high-quality scientific projects and conducting successful experiments in EuXFEL.
