On December 16th, Professor Grzegorz Wrochna, a long-time Director General – first, of the Institute of Nuclear Problems, and then of National Centre for Nuclear Research – has been appointed Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. In his scientific career, Professor Wrochna dealt with large-scale experiments in high energy physics, co-founded pioneer observations in space, and recently – as the representative of the NCBJ Director General – he worked on the concept of introducing high-temperature nuclear reactors into our scientific and economic landscape. The current flagship NCBJ development projects, such as the PolFEL free electron laser, CERAD cyclotron centre for radiopharmaceuticals or the NOMATEN centre of excellence for new materials, originated during the time, when Professor Wrochna was our director, and their concepts were created with his significant personal involvement. Congratulations to Professor, for taking over a new and extremely important function, and we hope that it will contribute to the development of all Polish science!
