Prof. Jakub Kupecki among experts at the 34th Economic Forum
01-09-2025
The Economic Forum is an event that has been bringing together political, economic and social leaders from around the world for over three decades. This year's edition will be attended by the Director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ), Prof. Jakub Kupecki.
The 34th edition of the Economic Forum is one of the largest and most important economic and political events in Central and Eastern Europe this year. The conference, which will take place on 2-4 September, will host over 6,000 guests – leaders from the worlds of politics, economics and science, as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations and culture. The theme of this year's edition is: "A time of transformation – what will the Europe of the future look like?". The invited experts will lead discussions on this topic in eight discussion tracks: AI Forum, Cybersecurity Forum, Healthcare Forum, Regions Forum, University Zone, Economy, International Politics and Security, Society, and Sustainable Development.
The event's expert panel includes Professor Jakub Kupecki, PhD, DSc, Eng., Director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research, specializing in modern energy technologies. Professor Kupecki will represent NCBJ in several discussions, including the panels "Raw Material Security and the Geopolitics of Critical Materials – Challenges for the Future of Europe" (September 2nd at 4:05 PM) and "From Audit to Resilience – What Does the Lifecycle of a Large Cybersecurity Project Really Look Like in the Public and Government Sector?" (September 3rd at 1:30 PM).
During the panel "Raw Material Security and the Geopolitics of Critical Materials – Challenges for the Future of Europe," experts will discuss raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earth metals. These are essential for the development of modern technologies and used in the construction of renewable energy sources, electromobility, and the nuclear sector. The growing dependence on external suppliers makes efforts to diversify supplies, develop domestic mining potential, and recycle critical materials crucial. The panel will provide a forum for discussion on strategies for building resource sovereignty, international cooperation, the role of science and technology in the development of new sources, and the legislative needs and investments in this sector. The moderator is Professor Bożena Tyliszczak from the Tadeusz Kościuszko Cracow University of Technology, and the panelists include Professor Patrice Geoffron, Director of the Center for Research on the Geopolitics of Energy and Raw Materials at Paris Dauphine University; Krzysztof Galos, Undersecretary of State and Chief National Geologist at the Ministry of Climate and Environment; and Dr. Artur Dyczko, Director of the Upper Silesian Branch of the Polish Geological Institute.
The second block will attempt to answer the question of how cybersecurity projects are carried out in practice in organizations that are critical to the functioning of the state – large, complex, often multi-billion structures in which security has not only a technological but also a strategic and institutional dimension.
