On 1 September 2025, Professor Jakub Kupecki, PhD, Eng., took up the position of Director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ).

Professor Kupecki has previously served as director of the Institute of Power Engineering – National Research Institute. He is a recognised expert in the field of modern energy technologies, including nuclear energy.

The new director of the NCBJ has been cooperating with industry for many years, sitting on expert teams and supervisory boards of companies. He has also led numerous interdisciplinary research projects with a strong application and market focus.

- My primary focus will be to ensure the integrity and continued strength of NCNR - Poland’s largest research institute and a vital pillar of our country’s economy and industrial development. Together, we will also seek new areas for NCNR’s involvement that align with the evolving needs of Polish industry. At the same time, we will remain firmly committed to fundamental research, which is at the very heart of the Centre’s mission and identity – said director Kupecki in a message to employees of the National Centre for Nuclear Research.

The competition for the position of director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) was concluded in June this year.
