Wizyta ministra Dariusza Wieczorka w NCBJ

31-10-2024

Minister Dariusz Wieczorek visited the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Świerk, where he saw the operation of MARIA, the only active nuclear reactor in Poland. The visit was an opportunity to highlight the importance of nuclear research for the economic development and energy security of the country.

The National Centre for Nuclear Research is one of the most important scientific institutions in Poland, playing a key role in the development of nuclear technologies. Minister Dariusz Wieczorek became acquainted with the centre's infrastructure and the research projects underway. He visited the MARIA research reactor and the Centre for the Design and Synthesis of Molecularly Targeted Radiopharmaceuticals (CERAD).

The Maria Neutron Laboratory is being built at the MARIA reactor. The new laboratory is part of the Polish Research Infrastructure Map and is supported by the National Reconstruction Plan (KPO).

NCBJ is also carrying out two other key projects funded under the KPO:

  • NOMATEN CoRE
  • PolFEL - Polish Free Electron Laser.

Both are examples of cutting-edge technology and advanced research. NOMATEN CoRE focuses on research into new materials for industry and medicine, while PolFEL has the potential for application in a variety of scientific and industrial fields.

CERAD, also included in the Polish Research Infrastructure Map, is still in the finalisation stage. The project is financially supported by the Intelligent Development Operational Programme (POIR).

During the visit, Minister Wieczorek expressed his conviction that stable financial support for key research institutions - such as NCBJ - is essential if they are to achieve their ambitious goals and effectively support the country's development.

"Strategic institutions require stable and systemic funding so that they can effectively support the country's development and security - ad hoc solutions are not enough" - stressed the head of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The minister also highlighted the role of nuclear research in strengthening Poland's energy security and developing the country's scientific potential. At a time of growing demand for modern technological solutions, investments in this field may prove crucial for both the economy and the country's security. The visit to NCBJ highlighted the importance of technology for the future of the country and was an expression of support for its development.
