Postdoctoral positions
ref. LBM_497, 506

Location: Otwock - Świerk - in the outskirts of Warsaw with daily transport services provided.

Job/tasks description:

  • Conducting research on engineering materials in the Materials Research Laboratory, with particular responsibility for the comprehensive characterization of materials dedicated to nuclear technologies, using scanning electron microscopy, mechanical and nanomechanical testing, spectroscopic techniques, and other relevant methods;
  • Operation and supervision of selected research facilities, including the execution of planned processes/tests, routine equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and liaison with technical service providers;
  • Preparation of reports, scientific publications, and conference and seminar presentations (in Polish and English);
  • Active applying for funding for scientific research (e.g., preparation of grant applications);
  • Close collaboration with other research groups within the LBM Laboratory and NCBJ, as well as with external partners;
  • Participation in the implementation of scientific research projects and/or industrial contracts;
  • Participation in activities related to the expansion and modernization of the laboratory’s research infrastructure;
  • Procurement of supplies and equipment for laboratory needs;

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in materials engineering, physics, mechanics, or a related discipline;
  • Scientific experience demonstrated by publications in the field of advanced materials for nuclear energy applications (e.g., Ni-based alloys, HEAs, AFAs, ODS alloys, and others). Minimum Hirsch index (h-index) of 5 according to the Scopus database; authorship or co-authorship of at least 8 publications in the above-mentioned field published in journals listed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), including at least 3 as leading (first) author;
  • Documented knowledge of materials engineering, solid-state physics, the effects of ionizing radiation on engineering materials, and measurement techniques used in materials research;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in research and laboratory work;
    strong analytical skills – conducting research using various measurement techniques and analyzing the obtained results and measurement data;
  • Knowledge of sampling methods and sample preparation for materials testing;
  • Systematic approach to work, high professional standards, and good organizational skills;
  • Ability to conduct research independently, with initiative, commitment, creativity, and reliability;
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Openness to taking on new challenges;
  • Willingness to continuously gaining new knowledge and improve qualifications, with a strong sense of responsibility;
  • Fluent command of English, both spoken and written

Additional requirements:

  • Experience in leading research and/or industrial projects;
  • Experience to prepare grant applications, demonstrated by submitted project funding proposals;
  • Experience in scientific supervision of PhD students or junior staff members;
  • Completed scientific research internships or fellowships;
  • Experience working in laboratories operating under a quality management system compliant with PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025.
