The National Centre for Nuclear Research opens the competition for the position of

Professor of the Institute

NOMATEN Centre of Excellence (CoE) is formed through a scientific partnership between the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ-Poland), the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA-France) and the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT-Finland). NOMATEN focuses research on the characterization, analysis and development of advanced multifunctional materials, specifically those designed to work in extreme conditions, with primary examples being radiation, high temperature and corrosion.

Location: Otwock - Świerk - in the outskirts of Warsaw with daily transport services provided. 

Description of tasks:

  • conducting and coordinating research work in the characterization of modern functional materials by electron microscopy techniques (TEM including in-situ HT-TEM, SEM-FIB/EDS/EBSD);
  • cooperation with other scientific groups of NOMATEN and NCBJ;
  • preparation of scientific publications;
  • preparation of grant proposals and their completion.

Requirements for the candidate:

  • Dr. hab. degree in the field of natural sciences or engineering and technology;
  • practical and theoretical knowledge of experimental techniques (TEM, in-situ HT-TEM, SEM/FIB/EDS/EBSD/CL) in the study of structural properties of materials documented by scientific publications;
  • experience in laboratory work min. 20 years;
  • experience working in the area of microstructural characterization of materials by electron microscopy techniques, min. 15 years;
  • experience in planning and conducting scientific research;
  • experience in scientific project coordination;
  • scientific achievements in the discipline of physical sciences/materials engineering;
  • fluency in spoken and written English;
  • communication skills, systematic and very good work organization;
  • ability to work in a team as well as to lead a team;
  • Being open for new tasks and challenges.

Additional assets:

  • experience in the investigation of structural and mechanical properties of materials subjected to radiation damage, supported by scientific publications (min. 40);
  • experience in studying structural properties of materials subjected to radiation damage by RBS/c, XRD, electron microscopy (SEM, TEM) techniques, including low-energy scanning electron microscopy (low-kV SEM), supported by scientific publications;
  • experience in conducting research studies in an international environment on the structural properties of nuclear materials supported by scientific publications;
