The National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Warsaw invites applications for  OPUS 19  student scholarship in the OPUS19 project 2020/37/B/ST9/01821, financed by the National Science Centre (NCN) - the project, titled "Search for macroscopic dark matter with ground-based and space-based high sensitivity cameras," 

The scholarship amounts are determined based on the NCN Regulation, depending on the candidate's experience and assigned tasks.

Project’s description: 

Selected candidates will join the activities for the DIMS (Dark Matter and Interstellar Meteoroid Study) experiment under the OPUS 19 project, "Search for macroscopic dark matter with high-sensitivity ground-based and space-based cameras" (2020/37/B/ST9/01821), financed by the National Science Centre (NCN). The main task involves managing a large amount of data by remotely connecting to the DIMS facilities located at the Telescope Array observatory in Utah, USA. Scholarship holders will share this shift with NCBJ staff, and the shift schedule will consider the scholarship holders’ lectures and academic duties at their universities. 

This call does not intend to offer thesis topics. Provided that the primary tasks are performed adequately, we offer opportunities to participate in data analysis activities related to this project. Participation in discussion with NCBJ staff is also encouraged in developing future research topics. 

The project is expected to conclude no later than March 2025. 

Description of tasks:

  • Remote controlling the status of the remotely operated observation facility.
  • Active participation in the data storage management.
  • Acquiring fundamental principles related to the facility and its operation.
  • Assisting with or fully participating in the analysis of data obtained from the project.
  • Engaging in scientific discussions with NCBJ staff

Requirements for the candidate:

  • Experiences in data analysis or expiration of the experiment in astronomy or high energy astrophysics.

  • Any additional documents that may be relevant for the evaluation such as contact details of a reference person, etc.
