National Center for Nuclear Research invites candidates for a 5-year doctoral studies in reactor physics within the framework of the project “New reactor concepts and safety analyses for the Polish Nuclear Energy Program” POWR.03.02.00-00.I005/17-02. The project will be devoted to the research in the new high temperature reactor technologies: HTGR – High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor and DFR - Dual Fluid Reactor, which were indicated in the report of the Polish Ministry of Energy Committee for Deployment of High Temperature Reactors. The studies will cover all the aspects of these Generation IV reactors such as the design, the neutronics and reactor physics, the heat processes as well as the safety analyses.
All the candidates with both science and engineering undergraduate degrees are welcome to apply though a very strong educational background is expected from the candidates. Preference will be given to the candidates with a very good undergraduate studies score, some research record, and with some previous experience in high temperature reactors.
The full information on the project and on the admission criteria are announced on the webpage of the project: phd4gen.pl and of the general NCBJ doctoral studies: grad.ncbj.gov.pl/exam.
The studies will cover 16 topical lecture courses devoted to new reactor technologies. Each student will have a chance to pay a month visit in a renowned worldwide research institution performing the research in the field. The topical summer school on the new reactor technologies for the students is planned in June 2019. Successful candidates will be offered a monthly grant of 1900 PLN exclusively from the project on top of the regular stipend of 2200 PLN offered for every Ph.D. student at NCBJ.
The deadline for applications is 15th June 2018, 17.00 CET. The applications can be sent by email on the addresses below or by post onto the address: Sekretariat UZ3, Narodowe Centrum Badań Jądrowych, Andrzeja Sołtana 7, 05-400 Otwock, Poland. The exams will start on 25th of June 2018. The results will be announced on the 10th of July 2018. If not all 14 doctoral positions are filled in, then the second round of recruitment is planned in September 2018. The studies will begin on the 1st October 2018.
