On 18th of April 2025, at the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Świerk, a ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Academic and Research Cooperation took place between the Research Institute of Advanced Materials (RIAM) at Seoul National University and the Department of Materials Physics at NCBJ.

The Memorandum was signed by Professor Chan Park, Director of RIAM, and Professor Heung-Nam Han, Dean of the College of Materials Science and Engineering, on the Korean side, and by Professor Jacek Jagielski, Director of the Department of Materials Physics, on behalf of NCBJ.

Professor Agnieszka Pollo, Acting Director of NCBJ, Dr Marcin Kardas, Deputy Director of NCBJ, and Dr Jacek Gajewski, Director’s Representative, attended the ceremony.

On the Korean side, participants included Professor Seung-Kyun Kang representing Seoul National University and Dr Jae-Yong Kim, representative of KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute), along with a group of Korean scientists from SNU and KAERI.

This agreement is one of the outcomes of a joint research program conducted by scientists from Korea and Poland dedicated to developing Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF). The collaborative research program has been underway since 2023 and involves the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in Daejeon.

The signing of the agreement aims to strengthen the ties between NCBJ and Korean institutions, expand the scope of collaboration into research areas beyond nuclear energy, and establish a platform for cooperation that includes interactions between Korean industry and companies and research centres in Poland.
