Post-doc

The National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) invites applications for a post-doc position financed via the SONATA BIS “Development of high entropy alloys with high radiation resistance and elevated mechanical properties at high temperatures” funded by the National Science Centre, Poland, (project number: 2023/50/E/ST11/00212, Principal Investigator: dr hab. Lukasz Kurpaska).

The project is being carried out within the NOMATEN Centre of Excellence (https://nomaten.ncbj.gov.pl/).

Location: Otwock - Świerk - in the outskirts of Warsaw with daily transport services provided. 

Description of tasks:

  • DFT & Monte Carlo Simulations: Expertise in DFT (VASP) for HEAs, including Cluster Expansion (CE) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations.  
  • - CALPHAD & Phase Stability: Proficiency in CALPHAD for temperature-dependent phase stability analysis of HEAs.
  • Development of Interatomic potentials of different chemical compositions of HEA with FCC and BCC structure
  • Preparing reports, scientific publications, and conference presentations
  • Collaboration with other members of the CoE

Requirements:

  • PhD diploma in the field of materials engineering, mechanics, physics, or related fields;
  • The experience proved by a very strong publication record in the domain of alloys for extreme applications, deformation, radiation damage resistance;
  • Knowledge about radiation damage of materials, plastic deformation etc.
  • Knowledge of electron microscopy techniques – TEM
  • Knowledge related to the manufacturing and heat treatment of metallic materials
  • Excellent English skills, enabling the use of scientific literature, report and publication preparation
  • Strong communication skills, systematic approach, good work organization, and ability to work in a multinational team

Additional assets:

  • Research experience confirmed by authorship/co-authorship of at least 3 scientific publications, participation in conferences, and involvement in scientific clubs
  • Knowledge related to FCC type HEA manufacturing and their post-processing and deformation
  • Knowledge related to the formation of radiation defects in metallic materials
  • Experience in applying electron microscopy techniques (TEM) in materials engineering will be an advantage
