Delegation of the government of Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Dr. Ali Akbar Salehi, Vice-president of Iran and President of Iranian National Atomic Energy Agency, visited Świerk on November 9, 2016. The talks concerned perspectives of tightening scientific cooperation between Iran and Poland.

NCBJ scientists presented our achievements in applications of ionizing radiation in medicine, in particular in the field of medical accelerators and development of new radiopharmaceuticals.

„World-class research, unique competences in nuclear medicine, and numerous medicines successfully entered on the market help us to constantly expand the network of our business partners” – said Dr . Krzysztof Kurek, NCBJ Director General – „We hope to conclude the contract for delivery of 20 medical accelerators to the Iranian healthcare system soon. This visit is a good indication that the negotiations are on a right track”.

History of NCBJ contacts with Iran may be traced back to the decade of 90’ in  the last century. NCBJ-manufactured medical accelerators were the first devices of that kind in Iran. They helped to practically implement modern cancer radiotherapy methods in that country. The first accelerator was installed in university hospital in Kerman. Since that time NCBJ has delivered 10 medical accelerators, 5 X-ray simulators, and wealth of other equipment to hospitals in Kerman, Teheran, Tabriz, Isfahan, Yazd, Shirraz and Mashhad, as well as has trained numerous medical physicists, therapy planners and hospital technicians.

Another Iranian delegation headed by Dr. Seyed Hassani Ghazizade Hashemi, Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic of Iran visited Świerk in September this year. That time the Iranians expressed their interest in our innovative equipment for their newly built radiotherapy centres since they wished to broaden access of their people to radiotherapy, a very effective method to treat various cancer cases.
