The Director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research took part in the ceremonial meeting of the Senate of the Warsaw University of Technology and the accompanying events organised to mark the University’s 200th anniversary.
The jubilee celebrations referred to the origins of the Warsaw University of Technology, whose symbolic beginning took place on 4 January 1826, when the Polytechnic Council convened at the Kazimierzowski Palace to announce the opening of the Preparatory School for the Polytechnic Institute – the first official technical higher education institution operating in the Polish language, which marked the beginning of the history of Polish technical universities.
The ceremonial meeting of the Senate of the Warsaw University of Technology was held on 15 January 2026 and brought together representatives of the academic community, public administration and the University’s partners. The programme included, among others, the unveiling of a portrait, ceremonial addresses and the presentation of congratulatory messages from the President of the Republic of Poland, ministers and the Rector of the University of Warsaw – the institution on whose academic staff the original Preparatory School was initially based.
The National Centre for Nuclear Research could not be absent from the event, as for over 70 years its history has been closely intertwined with that of the Warsaw University of Technology, both through scientific cooperation and through the contribution of WUT graduates to the development of nuclear research and advanced technologies in Poland.
“This is a magnificent jubilee and an exceptionally ceremonial event. To the entire community of the Warsaw University of Technology, with best wishes for continued success, outstanding educational achievements, technological development and the creation of new partnerships for Polish science and the economy,” wrote Prof. Jakub Kupecki, Director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research, in the commemorative book of the ceremonial Senate meeting held on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Warsaw University of Technology.
The ceremony was enhanced by a reconstruction of historic speeches delivered by Stanisław Staszic and Kajetan Garbiński, the first Director of the School, already commonly referred to at the time as the Warsaw University of Technology. May the next 200 years bring continued success, fruitful cooperation, groundbreaking discoveries, advancing technologies and outstanding graduates – strengthening Poland’s scientific and economic position.
