On September 23, during the conference in Warsaw entitled "Directly (wprost) about science. From basic research to development work. The Polish system of higher education and science in the era of modern challenges. Prospects, opportunities, challenges", prof. Wacław Gudowski from the National Center for Nuclear Research received the Eagle "Wprost" award in the "Business and science" category. The award was granted for outstanding scientific achievements and teaching activities in the field of nuclear energy, as well as for involvement in the development of scientific cooperation between Poland and Sweden.

Wacław Gudowski is a professor of Reactor Physics and Neutron Physics at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. He is a long-time director of the Center for Nuclear Energy (CEKERT) at KTH, a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, and a professor at the National Center for Nuclear Research. He is the author of over 90 scientific publications in nuclear engineering and solid state physics, one of the European pioneers in research on the transmutation of nuclear waste and materials in accelerator-driven/controlled systems – ADS.

In 2005, he initiated and coordinated the European educational project: "European-China Energy and Environment Campus". The partners of this still developing project are the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Tsinghua University in Beijing, the Turin University of Technology and the Harbin University of Technology. Prof. Gudowski also deals with the issue of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

"On such occasions, you thank institutions and people. Four institutions that influenced my life are the AGH University of Science and Technology, which shaped me, the Royal University of Technology in Stockholm, which did not interfere with my passion; the third institution is Orlen Synthos Green Energy, which had the courage to show the public small nuclear reactors, and the fourth institution is the National Center for Nuclear Research, where there is a very "high temperature" on the development of new generation reactors," said Prof. Gudowski during the award ceremony.

The "Wprost" Eagle Award is awarded to outstanding representatives of the scientific community in Poland. The winners are selected by a jury composed of representatives of the world of science, business and media.
