Silent Giants, Hidden Fuel: ALMA Reveals Surprising Diversity of Dust and Gas in Quiescent Galaxies
16-02-2026
New ALMA observations reveal that diverse reservoirs of dust and molecular gas can persist long after galaxies stop forming stars, challenging theoretical expectations.
NCBJ and the Institute of Power Engineering – National Research Institute are exploring potential areas for joint research
13-02-2026
On February 10, we hosted representatives of the Institute of Power Engineering – National Research Institute at NCBJ. During the next in a series of workshop meetings, staff from both institutes shared their experiences and knowledge of competencies in order to define a joint research agenda for NCBJ and IEN-PIB.
Prof. Lech Szymanowski as co-author of an influential publication on the structure of matter
09-02-2026
Prof. Lech Szymanowski from the National Center for Nuclear Research is the co-author of an article published in the prestigious journal Physical Review D. The paper concerns research into the deepest structure of matter and proposes a new way of describing it, which may help scientists around the world to better understand what the basic components of atoms are made of and how they are structured.
NCBJ doctoral student awarded NAWA Bekker grant
06-02-2026
Krzysztof Lisiecki, a PhD student at the Astrophysics Division of the National Centre for Nuclear Research, has been awarded a NAWA Bekker grant for his project entitled "Cosmic giants in miniature? The truth about the sizes of the most massive galaxies in the Universe". The grant provides an opportunity to conduct research on a special population of galaxies, known as red nuggets, using state-of-the-art research methods and advanced telescopes, such as the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
Workshop on detection and dosimetry techniques
06-02-2026
On 5 February, the Radiation Detectors and Plasma Diagnostics Division at the National Centre for Nuclear Research organised a workshop on mixed radiation detection and dosimetry. Detection techniques are used in medicine, industry and nuclear energy, among other fields.
New model from NCBJ reveals unexpected effects of sound propagation in crystals
30-01-2026
Atomic-scale computer simulations allow us to study material properties that are inaccessible to traditional experimental methods. In his latest work, a scientist from the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) has proposed a new model describing the propagation of sound in crystals, which reveals the existence of previously unknown dynamic effects and forces occurring in the crystal structure under the influence of an acoustic wave.
NCBJ becomes honorary patron of the 26th edition of the POWERPOL National Energy and Heating Congress
30-01-2026
The 26th POWERPOL Energy and Heating Congress will be held on 23–24 February 2026 in Warsaw. It will consist of two days of discussions, dozens of speakers, several hundred participants, an open format, and many business meetings with opportunities to establish new relationships and contacts.
