We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of our colleague Tadeusz Wagner, M.Sc., who passed away on 15.11.2022.
Tadeusz Wagner started his work on 01.10.1967 at the former Nuclear Research Institute and continued uninterruptedly until 31.12.2017.
He held a number of management positions and was promoted to chief specialist. At the Materials Research Laboratory, he was the Manager of the Hot Chambers - the only set of equipment in the country that allows the examination of samples irradiated in the MARIA reactor - the so-called witness samples. He was a great advocate of the construction of the Nuclear Power Plant and thanks to his efforts, among others, a set of Hot Chambers was built at NCBJ. This equipment is an indispensable part of the expert facilities whose task is, among other things, to monitor the ageing process of nuclear installations.
In the course of his work, Tadeusz Wagner became known as a high-calibre specialist, a man of many interests who was always there to help and pass on his knowledge to his young colleagues.
Management, Scientific Council and colleagues
Tadeusz Wagner was born on 5 June 1943 in Warsaw.
In 1961, he graduated from the T. Reytan Secondary School and enrolled at the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology.
In 1967 he began working at the Nuclear Research Institute in Świerk in the Nuclear Fuels and Construction Materials Department, preparing his diploma thesis, which he defended in 1968, gaining the title of Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in metallurgy and heat treatment.
From 1968 he worked at the same Materials Research Department of the Nuclear Research Institute (after subsequent organisational changes: Atomic Energy Institute and National Centre for Nuclear Research), initially in the Powder Metallurgy Laboratory and the Special Techniques Laboratory, and later in the Hot Research Laboratory, in the positions of senior assistant and chief specialist. He served as Head of the Hot Research Laboratory, Deputy Head of the Department, and after the reorganisation of the IEA in 1994. - Head of the Active Materials Research Laboratory and Deputy Head of the Materials Research Laboratory.
Tadeusz Wagner, M.Sc., conducted metallographic research on fuel and construction materials and was co-author of several patents and a number of scientific publications. Later, he was involved in the construction and equipment of a hot laboratory for irradiated materials research and was involved in low-cycle fatigue testing of steel.
In 1974, he received the Second Degree Award of the State Council for the Utilisation of Atomic Energy, and in 2005 he was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit.
He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for several terms.
